Mini Spider Hex
After watching lot of FPV videos with Blackout Spider Hex I wanted my own, didn.t really have the time to build one since I wanted to be able to fly directly so I started to look for used ones. There doesn.t seem to be that many Blackout quads/hexas for sale in Sweden so when a clone showed up for sale I got it. The hexa had everything I needed except OSD here are the specs:
- 6-axis 290mm Carbon Fiber Hexacopter from Goodluckbuy
- 6 RCX 1804 2400KV motors
- ESC: 12A
- 6 GemFan 5*3 propellers
- Sony CCD 600TVL FPV camera
- MultiWii PRO Mini Flight Controller w/ GPS Option
- FrSky D4R-II receiver
- 5.8GHz 32CH A/V 200mW Transmitter
Started with connecting the MultiWii controller to my MAC, I.ve never worked with MultiWii before so I so it took a little while to learn how it works but after setting up my Taranis so I could change the flight modes and calibrating everything I could finally test the new hexa, was really surprised how fast it was compared to my F450. Made a couple of test flights I realized that I really need goggles and an OSD.
I decide to get a pair of Fatshark Attitude V2 and after searching a lot about OSDs I decided to go for MinimOSD with KV Team firmware. I had one MinimODS at home already that I had bought for my Tarot T810 build. It was a MinimOSD with KV Team mod 1.0 so it had connectors for battery, video battery and RSSI, didn.t need to do any breakouts from the chip.
Upgraded the OSD with newest firmware, connected it to my MultiWii FC, camera and video transmitter but there was no picture, testes to send video again without the OSD and it worked but not when I connected the OSD. I spent a couple of hours troubleshooting this, tested other cables, another video transmitter, connect only the video signal via the OSD and both vide + ground. I thought the OSD was broken and since I needed one for my Tarot build I ordered a couple of them. Finally I found the problem, the serial port on my MultiWii gave only about 4 volts and not 5 so I took power from another port on the MultiWii only RX/TX were to the serial port and then the MinimOSD booted up properly and I got video.
Started configuring voltage monitoring, RSSI monitoring but couldn.t get it to work properly so I started searching again how to solve this, found out that others have had similar problems and after changing to MultiWiiOSD instead so I changed the firmware to Multiwii OSD and configured everything again, this time it seems to work really well.
Crash
The hexa is crashed. Took it for a flight a couple of days ago, after about a minute of flight it just fell from the sky when I found the hexa I saw that one of the props was gone, it came loose in the air. I didn.t check it before but realized that all motors are CW so I.ll buy some nylok nuts. A couple of spare arms are on the way so I hope to be up in the air with the hexa soon again.
The hexa is whole again
The new arms arrived yesterday so the hexa is in one piece again
The new arms are thicker than the old so we'll see what brakes next time I crash.
